Free expression is paramount to the Internet Computer Community, but there are times when speech can be at odds with safety, dignity, and legality. Therefore, certain behaviors and practices will not be considered acceptable on icp0.io (ic0.app) boundary nodes. This Code of Conduct is designed to protect icp0.io (ic0.app) boundary nodes from improper and/or illegal activity. All users are expected to abide by this Code of Conduct at all times.
The long and short of it is:
- Don’t do anything illegal, inappropriate or abusive.
- Do respect yourself and the Internet Computer Community by keeping the Internet Computer a safe place for all users.
- Unacceptable content served via icp0.io (ic0.app) nodes will be filtered at the sole discretion of the icp0.io (ic0.app) boundary node operator (“Operator”).
VIOLENCE AND CRIMINAL BEHAVIOR
Non-Consensual Violence and Gore
Do not host or serve content that depicts non-consensual violence and/or gore. Restrictions on extreme violent content have been limited to non-consensual violence and/or gore that is not targeted at raising awareness or is not otherwise newsworthy.
Dangerous Organizations and Individuals
Do not host or serve content that depicts violent events undertaken by violent non-state organizations and individuals, including terrorist attacks, organized gang violence, multiple-victim violence or attempted multiple-victim violence, murders or attempted murders, or hate crimes. In addition, do not host or serve content that facilitates or promotes the activities of these groups or individuals, such as recruiting, coordinating online or offline activities, sharing manuals or other materials that could facilitate harm, or promote terrorist acts.
Whether the substance primarily relates to an educational, documentary, scientific, newsworthy, or artistic purpose will be taken into account.
Regulated Goods and Services
Do not host or serve content intending to sell, advertise, or facilitate the sale of illegal and/or regulated goods and services such as illegal narcotics.
DANGEROUS AND SENSITIVE CONTENT
Child Sexual Exploitation, Abuse, and Nudity
Do not host or serve content that exploits or abuses children. This includes all child sexual abuse materials. Child sexual abuse materials include but are not limited to predatory behavior towards children such as:
- Child Sexual Exploitation (i.e. sexual intercourse with real or non-real minors, toddlers, or babies (collectively, “children”); children with sexual elements; content of children in a sexual fetish context; content depicting or encouraging participation in pedophilia, etc.)
- Inappropriate Interactions with Children (i.e. soliciting sexual material from children, arranging or planning real-world sexual encounters with children, child grooming, sexual conversations with children, etc.)
- Exploitative Intimate Imagery and Sextortion (i.e. coercing money, favors, or intimate imagery with threats to expose intimate imagery or information; sharing, threatening, blackmailing, or stating an intent to share private sexual conversations or intimate imagery, etc.)
- Child Nudity (speaks for itself)
- Child Abuse. Depiction of physical violence towards a minor. Scolding, yelling, harassing in a non-playful or educative manner with the intention to cause physical and/or mental harm to a minor (17 and under).
Non-Consensual Explicit Imagery
Do not host or serve private nude, sexually explicit, or non-explicit intimate and sexual images or videos without the subject’s consent.
Human Exploitation
Do not host or serve content that facilitates or coordinates the exploitation of humans, including human trafficking, i.e. the business of depriving someone of liberty for profit.
COPYRIGHT VIOLATIONS
Copyright Violations
Do not host or serve content that violates someone else’s intellectual property rights, including copyright and trademark.
DMCA Policy
You must respect other people’s copyrights, trademarks, and other legal rights.
Reporting Claims of Copyright Infringement
Operator will respond to notices of alleged copyright infringement that comply with applicable law. If any materials accessible on or from icp0.io (ic0.app) infringe your copyright, you or your agent may request to disable access of those materials from icp0.io (ic0.app) by submitting a written notification to the copyright agent designated below. In accordance with the Digital Millennium Copyright Act (17 U.S.C. § 512) (“DMCA”), the text of which may be found on the U.S. Copyright Office website at http://www.copyright.gov/legislation/dmca.pdf, the written notification (the “DMCA Notice”) must include the following information:
- A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act on behalf of the owner.
- Identification of the copyrighted work claimed to have been infringed or, if the claim involves multiple works, a representative list of such works.
- A description of the material you believe to be infringing in a sufficiently precise manner to allow us to locate that material.
- Adequate information by which the Operator can contact you (including your name, postal address, telephone number, and, if available, email address).
- A statement that you have a good faith belief that use of the copyrighted material is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
- A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the information in your DMCA Notice is accurate and that you are authorized to act on behalf of the copyright owner.

If you fail to provide all of the above information, your DMCA Notice may not be effective.
If the DMCA Notice complies with the above requirements, the Operator will disable access to the cited content that is allegedly infringing. Operator will make a good faith attempt to notify the alleged infringer with a copy of your DMCA Notice, using the contact information provided to us.
Please be aware that if you knowingly materially misrepresent that material or activity on icp0.io (ic0.app) is infringing your copyright, you may be held liable for damages (including costs and attorneys’ fees) under Section 512(f) of the DMCA.
Counter Notification Procedures
If you believe that access to your contact was disabled by mistake or misidentification, you may file a counter notification (a “Counter Notice”) by submitting a written notification to the copyright agent designated above. Your Counter Notice must include the following:
- Your physical or electronic signature.
- Identification of the material to which access has been disabled and the location at which the material appeared before it had its access disabled.
- Adequate information by which the Operator can contact you (including your name, postal address, telephone number, and, if available, email address).
- A statement by you, under penalty of perjury, that you have a good faith belief that the access to material identified above was disabled as a result of a mistake or misidentification of the material to be disabled.
- A statement that you will consent to the jurisdiction of the Federal District Court for the judicial district in which your address is located (or if you reside outside the United States for any judicial district in which the icp0.io (ic0.app) domain may be found) and that you will accept service of process from the person (or an agent of that person) who provided the DMCA Notice.
The DMCA allows us to restore the disabled content if the party filing the original DMCA Notice does not file a court action against you within ten business days of receiving the copy of your Counter Notice.
Please be aware that if you knowingly materially misrepresent that material or activity on the icp0.io (ic0.app) domain was disabled by mistake or misidentification, you may be held liable for damages (including costs and attorneys' fees) under Section 512(f) of the DMCA.
GENERALLY PROHIBITED ACTIVITIES
The Operator has the sole discretion to review and flag activities which it deems may be in violation of this policy.
Activities that interfere with the normal function of the icp0.io (ic0.app) boundary nodes, resulting in the direct or indirect degradation of the Internet Computer, are not acceptable and may be subject to review by the Operator pursuant to this policy.
Any inquiries or concerns about content served and/or inappropriate activities on the icp0.io (ic0.app) boundary nodes that may violate this policy should be directed to support@dfinity.org.
APPEALS PROCESS
Should the canister controller wish to appeal the decision to stop serving the canister on icp0.io (ic0.app), the controller should email support@dfinity.org.

CONSEQUENCES
This policy applies to all content served by the icp0.io (ic0.app) domain. Should your content violate the above policy, the Operator reserves the right to cease serving the canister(s) in question. Canisters will subsequently be inaccessible through the icp0.io (ic0.app) domain, and any users attempting to access the content will be notified that the canister’s content was flagged for being out of compliance with this policy.
Because canister controllers cannot be identified and contacted directly, canister controllers will not be notified if the content of their canisters violates this policy and cease to be served by the icp0.io (ic0.app) domain. The canister controller will only be made aware of this when trying to access the served content at the icp0.io (ic0.app) domain.

This policy may be updated from time to time, with any such modifications to be effective prospectively from the date of posting.
