Motion proposals remain open for voting for a period that can range from 24 hours to 48 hours. However, the voting period can be extended up to a total of 8 days for certain proposals, depending on the voting activity and the nature of the proposal. This is facilitated by an algorithm called "wait-for-quiet" which allows for the extension of the voting period for controversial proposals.
For critical proposal types, the voting period is between 5 to 10 days. These critical proposals require a larger voting participation and hence, a longer voting period is beneficial to ensure broad community consensus.
